How Does the FLAMES Calculator Work?
The calculator recreates the traditional paper-and-pencil game using a repeatable method.
Cancel matching letters
Letters shared by both names are removed one-for-one. Repeated letters matter because each occurrence can cancel only one matching occurrence.
Count what remains
The unmatched letters left across both names become the FLAMES counting number.
Eliminate F-L-A-M-E-S
Using that number, the calculator moves around the six FLAMES letters in a circle and removes one at a time until a single result remains.
FLAMES example
If two names leave 5 unmatched letters, the calculator counts around F-L-A-M-E-S and repeatedly removes every fifth position until one category remains.
